This piece is my interpretation of an ancient Greek story about hubris and excessive ambition leading to tragedy. Daedalus made wings of feathers and wax for him and his son, Icarus, to escape from Crete. Against his father’s cautionary warning, Icarus flew too close to the sun, the wax melted, wings fell apart, and Icarus fell into the sea and drowned. Taking artistic liberties with this story, I set Daedalus in a boat which is floating far above the sea; he is reaching out to Icarus whose wings seem to be catching fire. The many jagged lines and turbulent sky express drama and distress.
This original design is a creation of artist Andrea Petitto and is printed on durable rigid aluminum. Petitto selected aluminum for her prints because of its clarity and luminosity. No need for a frame, the aluminum print includes a backing to offset it slightly from the wall, and a wire for hanging. All you need is a wall and a hook. This ready to hang original piece is available in square sizes from an intimate 8x8 inches to a bold 40x40” inches. At any size, a great eye catcher and conversation starter.
NB, due to its small size, the 8x8” panel comes with a float mount and cleat for hanging instead of a wire.
If you would rather not have the hardware for hanging, but just want the printed aluminum, suitable for framing or other displays, select No for Hanging Hardware at checkout.
